A PU cast floor is a type of plastic floor that consists of a layer of polyurethane that is poured over an existing surface. It has a seamless, sleek and modern look that is suitable for different types of spaces, both residential and commercial.

What is a PU cast floor?

A PU cast floor is a floor that consists of a layer of polyurethane (PU), a plastic material obtained by the reaction of two components: a resin and a hardener. Polyurethane is an elastic and flexible material that adapts well to the surface and fills any cracks or irregularities.

Polyurethane floors are applied by pouring the mixture of resin and hardener over the surface and then spreading it with a trowel or roller. A polyurethane floor usually has a thickness of 2 to 4 millimeters.

Properties of a PU floor

A PU floor has various properties that make it an attractive choice for many applications. It has, among others, the following features:

  • Seamless: The floor is laid without seams, which provides a sleek and modern look.
  • Elastic: The floor is resilient and comfortable to walk on, which puts less strain on the joints.
  • Wear-resistant: PU cast floors can take a beating and are resistant to intensive use.
  • Easy to maintain: The floor is easy to clean and requires little maintenance.
  • Liquid-tight: A PU cast floor is resistant to liquids and is therefore suitable for areas where spills may occur.

Advantages of a PU cast floor

Choosing a PU cast floor has several advantages for companies:

  • Durability: A PU cast floor has a long lifespan, making it a cost-effective solution in the long term.

Disadvantages of a PU cast floor

Although PU cast floors offer many advantages, there are also some disadvantages to consider:

  • Curing time: After pouring, the floor needs time to fully cure, which can take several days.
  • Professional installation required: It is essential that a PU cast floor is installed by experienced professionals for optimal results.

How much does a PU cast floor cost?

The costs of a PU cast floor depend on various factors, such as the size, quality, color and finish of the floor. The condition of the subsurface, preparation and labor costs also play a role.

How long does it take to install a PU cast floor?

Laying a PU cast floor takes an average of 4 to 5 days, depending on the size and condition of the substrate. Each layer of polyurethane must dry for at least 24 hours before the next layer can be applied. It is important not to load the floor during the drying process to prevent damage.

How long does a PU cast floor last?

A PU cast floor lasts a very long time, provided it is properly maintained. This type of floor has a lifespan of at least 15 years, but can also last longer if it is regularly cleaned and protected against sunlight, temperature differences and sharp objects. In addition, a PU cast floor can also be refreshed by applying a new top layer.

How thick is a PU cast floor?

A PU cast floor is usually 2 to 4 millimeters thick, depending on the number of layers that are applied. However, the floor always consists of at least 3 layers: a primer layer, a casting layer and a top layer. Each layer has a thickness of approximately 0.5 to 1 millimeter. A thicker floor is not necessarily better, but it can provide more comfort and sound insulation.

What is the difference between a PU cast floor and an epoxy floor?

A PU cast floor and an epoxy floor are both plastic floors that consist of two components that react with each other. The difference is in the type of plastic used: polyurethane (PU) or epoxy.

A PU cast floor is more elastic, flexible and softer than an epoxy floor, which means it offers more comfort and warmth. On the other hand, an epoxy floor is harder, stiffer and smoother than a PU cast floor, which means it offers more resistance and shine.
