An epoxy floor is a type of cast floor that is especially suitable for areas that require high load-bearing capacity and resistance, such as factories, workshops and parking garages.

This type of floor is seamless, liquid-tight, wear-resistant and hygienic, making it ideal for industrial applications. Moreover, an epoxy floor is available in any desired color and design, so that you can convey your company identity on the floor.

What is an epoxy floor?

An epoxy floor is a type of floor covering made from epoxy resin, a plastic material known for its durability, strength and chemical resistance.

Epoxy resin is mixed with a hardener to cause a chemical reaction that results in a hard, tough and seamless floor coating. Thanks to its specific properties, this makes it an ideal floor for industrial environments.

Strong properties of epoxy floors

Epoxy floors are an excellent choice for commercial environments due to their unique properties and various benefits. These floor systems are specially designed to meet the high demands and loads that occur in industrial and commercial environments.

  • Extremely high load capacity: Withstands heavy loads including vehicles, heavy equipment and machinery. This makes them perfectly suitable for business premises where intensive daily activities take place.
  • Seamless: Seamlessly applied, meaning there are no joints or seams where dirt, dust or bacteria can accumulate. This provides a sleek and hygienic appearance and makes cleaning easier.
  • Fast load-bearing: Fast curing time, allowing quick resumption of business operations. This minimizes interruption of work after installation.
  • Safe: Can be fitted with non-slip finishes to improve safety, even in high foot traffic environments. Reducing slip and fall accidents is essential in any business environment.
  • Liquid-tight: Resistant to leaks, chemicals and liquids. This makes them particularly suitable for industries that work with oils, acids, fats or chemicals.
  • Abrasion Resistant: The durable nature of epoxy floors makes them resistant to wear and impact, which significantly extends the life of the floor.
  • Promotes Hygiene: The seamless and impermeable properties of epoxy floors make them easy to keep clean and prevent bacteria and dirt from building up. This promotes a clean and hygienic working environment.
  • Safety Enhancing: Can be customized with markings and colors to increase safety, such as indicating walking routes, danger zones and escape routes.
  • Dust-free: Epoxy floors are dust-free, which is beneficial for environments where manufacturing processes take place that are prone to dust contamination.
  • Easy to maintain: Epoxy floors are relatively easy to maintain. Regular cleaning with mild cleaning agents is usually sufficient to keep the floor in top condition.
  • Available in numerous colours: Available in a wide range of colors and can be customized to suit the corporate identity or specific needs of the company. This contributes to a pleasant working environment and can also be used to mark different zones and areas.

What types of epoxy floors are there?

Epoxy floors come in three different types, namely:

  1. Non-slip epoxy floor: a non-slip epoxy floor has an extra coating that prevents slipperiness, useful for areas where the floor can get wet.
  2. ESD floor: ESD floors are electrically conductive and prevent electrical discharges, which is important for areas where sensitive equipment is used.
  3. Industrial epoxy floor: an industrial epoxy floor is resistant to heavy loads, oils and acids. This is ideal for areas where there are many machines or vehicles.

How do I maintain an epoxy floor?

An epoxy floor is maintenance-friendly and easy to clean. You can follow the following steps to keep the epoxy floor clean:

Dry cleaning

You can easily remove dust and dirt with a vacuum cleaner or broom. You can do this daily or weekly, depending on how dirty the floor becomes.

Wet cleaning

Stains and stubborn dirt can be removed with a microfiber cloth or a mop. Use lukewarm water with a neutral cleaning agent. Rinse the cloth or mop regularly and dry the floor with a dry cloth.

Industrial cleaning

For large surfaces or very dirty floors you can use a scrubbing machine or a high-pressure cleaner. Also use lukewarm water with a neutral cleaning agent. Make sure you don’t leave the machine in one place for too long to avoid damage.

Application of epoxy floors in commercial environments

Epoxy floors offer excellent potential for a wide range of industrial applications, including:

  • Parking garage floor
  • Industrial floor
  • Kitchen floor
  • Bakery floor
  • Workshop floor
  • Warehouse floor
  • Production floor
  • Factory floor

Epoxy floors are durable, hard-wearing and easy to clean, making them the perfect choice for corporate environments where daily challenges are the order of the day.
